A small circular pit or quarry measuring approximately 4.5 metres is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1:10560 1889 map. By 1905 the pit has become sub-oval and increased in size to 12.5 metres. There is no indication of the pit on the Ordnance Survey 1933 revision. The absence of the pit or quarry from the 1842 Tithe map cannot be taken as proof that it did not exist at that time.
