In january 1871 fossil tooth of an elephant found close to water's edge (hutchinson 1871).

Mammoth remains. Found in 1871 and 1873.(1926 hutchinson) in january 1873 on beach opposite belmont were found one tooth weighing 6lbs 8oz and another of 2lbs 5oz. Five of the eight teeth were presented to exeter museum (hutchinson 1926).
