Earthwork banks of probable 18th-19th century date are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, within Woodbury Wood. The earthworks broadly correspond to a field boundary on the Woodbury parish tithe map and are partly depicted as elongated mounds on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the 1880’s-90’s. The earthworks are visible on aerial photographs as two linear and parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks either side of a possible cutting or ditch. The earthworks measure approximately 118m in length by approximately 16m in width and appear to span a natural combe and stream. Whilst the nature of the earthworks is unclear, it seems possible they represent part of an ornamental bridge, viaduct or aqueduct type feature, although no structural remains of these were visible. The earthworks are situated within land formerly belonging to Lord Rolle and may be associated with the ornamental watercourses recorded to both the north and south. The earthworks are visible on digital images derived from Lidar data captured in 2005.
