The remains of ridges probably made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage in two small orchards of probable post-medieval to 20th century date were visible on aerial photographs of the 1960s as earthwork banks to the south of Harepathstead Farm, Broadclyst.
The ridges corresponded to an orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map and its establishment therefore predates the 1880s. The western orchard was cleared of trees by the mid-1940s whilst the eastern orchard remained lightly planted. Both were cleared by 1967, with the tree planting banks clearly visible. The relict earthwork banks have since been levelled, along with a number of the surrounding field boundaries.
