Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1969 onwards, at Rydon Farm. The site of the orchard is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the orchard trees remain largely intact, although by 1969 these have been largely grubbed out, leaving a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.47 hectares of gentle southwest facing slope within a rectilinear shaped plot on the eastern side of the farm. Faint traces of earthwork banks are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
