A possible extraction pit of post-medieval to modern date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Cannonwalls. The large, shallow and sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 60m in length by 47m in width and is situated on gentle to moderate north sloping ground. It is also possible, however, that the earthwork represents a natural hollow. It is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1985, although is not clearly visible after this date.
