An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1944 onwards, at Lower Pilehayes Farm. The extent of the earthwork is depicted on the Woodbury parish tithe map and is recorded as Pit Orchard on the accompanying tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48. The broadly triangular shaped feature of a possible clay pit measures approximately 37m in length by 28m in width and is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs up until 1963. By 1979 construction of farm buildings and a possible pond associated with Lower Pilehayes Farm appear to have completely levelled the former extraction pit. A number of similar such extraction pits were also recorded within the vicinity.
