Earthwork banks of probable 18th to 19th century date are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1954, within Woodbury Wood. The earthworks occupy a single rectilinear shaped field which is depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s as situated on the eastern edge of Woodbury Wood. The earthworks may represent the remains of woodland banks associated with this wood, the trees having been felled by the time of the First Edition OS map. The earthwork banks are east to west aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.55 hectares of gentle west facing slope. The earthwork banks remain visible on aerial photographs of 1954, although by 1965 the area has been given over to woodland and the earthworks are no longer visible. The area remains depicted as woodland on the Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap and the survival of the earthwork banks is uncertain.

Ordnance Survey, 2015, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV357601.

The site of the earthworks is depicted as being part of Woodbury Wood.

Bluesky International, 2016, LiDAR DTM data (0.5m resolution) Blackdown Hills and East Devon AONBs: 3 transects, LIDAR SY0286 Bluesky International DTM 24-APR-2016 (Cartographic). SDV359714.

Narrow linear banks are visible as earthworks.

Sims, R., 2020, East Devon AONB Lidar Assessment and Desk based Assessment (Interpretation). SDV363914.

A series of narrow linear earthwork banks, circa 3m wide, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016. They are interpreted as possible 18th-19th century tree planting banks.
