Summary

Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Denbow Farm. The orchard banks to the south of Denbow Farm are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 2010, whilst those to the north appear to have been levelled following expansion of the farm.

Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Denbow Farms. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1946, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been thinned out, leaving a series of parallel northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy a combined area of approximately 0.95 hectares of gentle southwest facing slope, within two plots to the north and south of Denbow Farm. The orchard banks to the south of Denbow Farm are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 2010, whilst those to the north appear to have been levelled following expansion of the farm.
