Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1963 onwards, at Wares Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1963 show that the orchard is covered with trees, although by 1989, these have been completely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.96 hectares of gentle sloping ground, within a single rectilinear shaped plot depicted on the First Edition OS map. The orchard banks remain visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010, although those to the south of the site have been completely levelled following construction of Wares Farm.
