A possible quarry of between medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northwest of Shutebridge Farm. The large sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 46m in length by 41m in width and is located on gentle south facing slope, on the northern side of a stream. It lies within the site of, and appears to pre-date, an orchard which is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The nature of the earthwork is, however, uncertain and it should not be discounted that the feature is of natural origin. A similar sized feature is also recorded in close proximity to the southwest. The earthwork is visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
