The feature is symbolised here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Aylesbeare. The small oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 11m in length by 9m in width and is symbolised as a possible pond on the First Edition 25-inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. A number of similar such features are also depicted within the vicinity on this map. The earthwork remains visible on aerial photographs of 1989, although its survival after this date is unclear.
