A possible former extraction pit of potential medieval to post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northwest of Higher Upcott. The earthwork is visible as two adjacent semi-circular pits which are bisected by, and so pre-date, a northwest to southeast aligned field boundary. This boundary is first depicted on the Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48 as is the former extraction pit which appears to symbolised and re-utilised as a possible pond. The earthwork measures approximately 26m in length by 23m in width and remains partly visible as an earthwork pit on Lidar-derived images of 2005, although the northern tip has been truncated away following construction of the A30.
