Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Lions Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1947, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees to the south have been partly grubbed up, with the remaining trees to the north being cleared by 1989. The exposed earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are north to south aligned and occupy an area of approximately 1 hectare of gentle west facing slope. The orchard banks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
