Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on Lidar-derived images of 1998 and 2005, off Pin Lane. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established and so providing improved drainage and increased soil depth are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.75 hectares. An orchard is first depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although aerial photographs of 1946 show that the orchard remains covered with fruit trees. By 1988, the orchard trees have been largely removed, although the earthwork banks are not clearly visible, other than on Lidar-derived images.
