Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1970, SS81NW5 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV341913.

Tumulus to the southwest of Ellworthy Cross.
Flat topped round barrow 0.9 metres high with no ditch and no sign of excavation. Grass covered and situated in unreclaimed moorland.

Visited on 27th May 1958. Broad and flat grass mound 30 paces diameter and height 3 feet (0.91 metres).

Round barrow (a) to the west of the road. Flat topped mound 94 foot diameter (28.65 metres) by 2 foot 6 inches (0.76 metres) high. In a marshy pasture field. Other details: Monument 472.

Monument includes a bowl barrow on the upland ridge known as Witheridge Moor. The westernmost of a group of four barrows along the ridge. The monument survives as a circular mound 32.5 metres diameter and 0.8 metres high. The surrounding ditch from which material to construct the mound was derived survives as a buried feature approximately 3.5 metres wide. Other details: Monument 32208.
