A quarry is depicted here to the north on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Quarries of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Venlake Cross. The two adjacent earthworks are irregular in shape, with the larger of the two measuring up to 77m in length. They are situated in close proximity to a quarry which is depicted here to the north on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The possible quarries remain visible as earthwork pits on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2014.
