An old quarry is depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

The possible former quarry is visible as an earthwork pit.

A possible former quarry of likely post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, to the southeast of Payne’s Place Farm. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 47m in length by 30m in width and is located in close proximity to a quarry labelled here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The earthworks of the former quarry remain clearly visible on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2014.
