A series of parallel earthwork ditches of uncertain function, but likely post-medieval to modern date are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Battens Farm. The parallel and slightly sinuous earthworks are broadly eastnortheast to westsouthwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 1.52 hectares of moderate southeast facing slope at the tip of a spur. The earthworks closely resemble a 19th century catch meadow system, although given that they do not entirely respect the contour lines here, this does cast some doubt on this interpretation. They may alternatively represent drainage ditches. The earthworks remain clearly visible on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 1998-2014.
