Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Bidwell Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard trees remain largely covered with trees. By 1996, these have been completely cleared, exposing a series of northwest to southeast aligned banks which occupy an area of approximately 0.31 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope. The orchard banks remain visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
