A line of 28 or more postholes was uncovered during excavations on land off Shortlands Lane prior to redevelopment. Most were oval in shape, 0.6 metres diameter and 0.2-0.6 metres deep, with vertical sides and flat bases. Few retained any evidence of a post-pipe suggesting that the posts were removed not left to rot in situ. Finds were rare but indicate a date in the 18th century. The function of the posts is unclear but they have formed a temporary property boundary.
