An earthwork cutting of possible medieval or post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Rosemary Lane. The large square shaped earthwork measures approximately 61m by 61m and has been cut into moderate southeast facing slope, on the eastern side of Rosemary Lane. The Parish Tithe Map shows that the southern and western edges of the earthwork are defined as field boundaries. The purpose of the earthwork cutting is, however, largely unclear, although may represent a platform for a building or range of buildings or possible extraction pit, a number of which have been recorded within the vicinity. The earthwork cutting remains visible on lidar-derived images of 2008.
