A possible former extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on the south-east facing slopes south of Profits Down Farm, Stockland parish. The pit appears to abut the north side of the road east of Hornshayes Knap Cross, and measures circa 95 metres long and up to 40 metres wide.
The earthworks did not correspond with any pits or quarries depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, which might support the interpretation that the pits had passed out of use prior to the 1840s. The pit probably survives as earthworks.
