Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The visible earthworks did not correspond with any depicted boundaries.

Ordnance Survey, 1982, OS/82218 V, OS/82218 V 1125-1126 28-AUG-1982 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359504.

Earthwork banks and ditches were visible.

Environment Agency, 1998-2014, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), LIDAR ST2402-ST2403 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 30-SEP-2014 (Cartographic). SDV359177.

Earthwork banks and ditches were visible.

Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.

This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Former field boundaries were visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data as earthwork banks and ditches on the south-west facing slopes either side of Dencroft Lane, adjacent to Ford Farm, Stockland.
The earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland but did abut field boundaries that survived into the 1980s, a field pattern that had been characterised by HLC as probably later medieval in origin. The relict banks are therefore interpreted as being field boundaries of probable medieval origin that had been removed prior to circa 1840.
