An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1989, at Lower Sheldon Grange, Sheldon. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 50m in length by 28m in width and is located within a land parcel depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, which the extraction pit likely pre-dates. It is located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey.
