Extraction pits of between medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northwest of Little Musgrove Farm, Dunkeswell. The southern and larger of the tree adjacent earthworks is irregular in shape, measures approximately 85m in length by 32m in width and abuts, and so likely post-dates, an historic field boundary along its northeast edge. The site of this earthwork is partly depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The other two earthworks are located on the northern side of this field boundary, are semi-circular and sub-circular in shape and measure approximately 33m in length by 12m in width and 19m in length by 17m in width, respectively. The earthworks are located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey and remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
