A large mound of earth was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data on the northern edge of the train line to the south of Combewater Farm, Monkton parish, circa 500 metres east of the Honiton tunnel. The mound is fan-like in plan, broadening out to the north and east end. The feathered appearance of the earthwork on its eastern edge is suggestive of dumping. It is probable that the visible earthwork was a spoil heap associated with the excavation of the Honiton Tunnel or associated cuttings, built in the mid-19th century. The mound is now obscured by tree cover.
