Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The earthworks are located within woodland labelled as ‘The Plantation’.

The possible extraction pits are visible as a number of earthwork pits.

Possible extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as a number of earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the southwest of Abbey Wood Farm. The earthworks are irregular and sub-oval in shape, measure between 6m to 17m in length and are dispersed across steep southwest facing slope. The earthworks are located within an area of woodland labelled as ‘The Plantation’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. They are not visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey owing to tree cover here.
