The pits are irregular in shape in shape, measuring between approximately 28 to 36 metres across. One of the visible earthworks, at circa ST19230266, corresponded with a Sand Pit depicted and annotated on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map. A similar role is therefore suggested for the additional unmarked pits, which had probably passed out of use prior to the 1880s. The earthworks remain obscured from view on aerial photographs by dense tree cover.
