Extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southwest of Stoneburrow Cottage. The earthworks are sub-oval in shape and measure approximately 22m in length by 10m in width (northern feature) and approximately 32m in length by 19m in width (southern feature). The earthworks both abut, and so likely post-date, an historic field boundary along their eastern edges. They are located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded during this survey and from a walkover survey carried out in 2016 (MDV114110) associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. The extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
