Summary
A probable former field boundary was visible as an earthwork bank on the higher west-facing slope of the Otter Valley, abutting the east side of the A30 north-west of Hayne Pit, Upottery parish, on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.

The relict earthwork is sited amongst fields probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the middle ages.

An earthwork bank was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 on the higher west-facing slope of the Otter Valley, abutting the east side of the A30 north-west of Hayne Pit, Upottery parish.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundary depicted in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or the Tithe Map for Upottery. It falls within a field pattern characterised as probably medieval in origin. This might support the interpretation that the earthwork bank is the remains of a field boundary of medieval date that had been removed prior to the 1840s.
