Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A probable former extractive pit of unknown, but probably post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of 2000 as a slight earthwork and dark cropmark, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016as an earthwork, on the west-facing slopes on the east bank of the River Otter, Upottery parish.
The roughly D-shaped pit is approximately 23 by 15 metres in size and abuts a linear ditch or hollow to the west, possibly a former boundary. The earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map and therefore passed out of use prior to the 1880s.
