Former field boundaries of between medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork bank and ditch features on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Bidwell Farm. The earthworks comprise two broadly T-shaped banks, northeast to southwest and east to west aligned, which are partly flanked on either side by earthwork ditches, with a single northeast to southwest aligned bank in the adjacent plot to the south. The boundaries appear to have largely passed out of use by the time of the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, possibly with the exception of the northern-most east to west aligned bank and ditch which possibly correspond to a field boundary depicted here on this map. The Historic Landscape Characterisation project has classified this area as comprising ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’, so may in part be of medieval origin. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
