Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible former extractive pit of unknown, but probably medieval to early 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s as an earthwork pit on the north and north-east-facing slopes west of Dolish Farm, Luppitt parish. The function of the pit is unknown, but it was probably made for local, small scale extraction.
The earthwork was roughly rectilinear in shape, was up to 30 metres wide and was cut into the slope for approximately 30 metres. The pit was not depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map and had therefore passed out of use by circa 1880.
The pit remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010. Access tracks that enter and exit the pit at its northernmost, lower end also remain visible as narrow earthwork hollows.
