Linear and curvilinear ditches and narrow banks were visible on aerial photographs of 1947 as earthworks in the floodplain of the Madford River, west of Holmwood Farm, Dunkeswell parish. The visible earthworks correspond in part with a footpath or trackway depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map, and are therefore interpreted as tracks defined by ditches to aid drainage. The sections that do not correspond with the depicted routes are therefore interpreted as footpaths that had passed out of use by the late 19th century.
The relict tracks appear to have been cut by later drainage ditches on the 1947 aerial photographs, but survive to be visible as slight earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
