Earthwork pits of possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northeast of North Hill Farm. The three earthworks are sub-oval to irregular in shape and measure between 27m to 50m in length. A series of copses are depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of between the 1880’s-90’s, which were likely established within the pits following their abandonment. The earthworks are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. The earthworks were not clearly visible on aerial photographs of other digital images made available to the survey owing to tree cover here.
