Earthwork banks of probable post-medieval to 19th date are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Whitehorn’s Farm. The earthworks, which are broadly northwest to southeast aligned and occupy a combined area of approximately 1.53 hectares of gentle southeast facing slope, may represent the remains of agricultural improvement or represent the site of a former orchard, the banks providing improved drainage and increased soil depth for the fruit trees. The earthworks appear to overlie a series of possible cultivation terraces or field boundaries (MDV114920).
