The remains of ridges made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage, dating probably from the post-medieval period to the mid-19th century, were visible under moderate tree cover as low parallel earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947. The trees had been cleared and the banks remained clearly visible as earthworks on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 and lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The plot in which the banks were visible was depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map. The earthworks can therefore be interpreted the remains of orchard tree planting banks, with the orchard remaining planted into the mid-20th century. The tree planting banks probably survive as slight earthworks.
