Possible Roman to early medieval ironstone open cast mines are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southeast of Ewin’s Ash. The three sub-circular shaped earthworks measure between 12m to 20m in length and are located in close proximity to a dense concentration of open cast mines to the northwest.
