Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Five oval or circular pits between 20 and 30 metres in diameter were visible as subtle earthworks on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1950, and very clearly identifiable on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pits had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
