Narrow ridges were visible as low parallel earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, and aerial photographs of 2002, on the east-facing slopes north-east of Charlton Hill Farm, Feniton parish.
The visible earthwork banks were spaced circa 6 metres apart and obliquely crossed the contours of the slope. They fell within a plot depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Feniton and the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The plot had been cleared of trees by 1947. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of tree planting banks made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage in an orchard dating probably from the post-medieval period to the 19th century, that had passed out of use by the mid-20th century.
