A roughly circular pit circa 40 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork and cropmark on aerial photograph of 1982 onwards.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any feature explicitly depicted as a pit in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. However, a small plot depicted on the Tithe Map for Buckerell might correspond to the pit; unfortunately it was not possible to read the number of the plot.
Nonetheless, this might support the interpretation that the visible earthwork and cropmarks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
