Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Park Farm, Dunkeswell. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1944, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been completely cleared. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.24 hectares of moderate northeast facing slope, within a single plot. The orchard banks were not clearly visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey.
