Summary

Several linear earthwork banks and ditches visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 may be the remains of relict boundaries or part of the designed landscape and gardens around Widworthy Court. They are likely to be post-medieval or 19th century in date.

A curving track is depicted running through mixed woodland between the house and the parkland.

Several linear earthwork banks and ditches are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 in woodland west of Widworthy Court. One of the ditches centred at 320527,99695 is on roughly the same alignment as part of a ride through the woodland depicted on the Tithe map. Another (not transcribed) corresponds closely to a trackway depicted at 320562,99574 on the early-20th century OS map. This feature appears to have cut through, and may post-date, a substantial bank circa 8 metres wide that runs roughly north-north-west to south-south-east through the woodland. Perpendicular to this, a narrower earthwork bank to the east seems to subdivide the area between the substantial bank and the mansion house, apparently connecting to another substantial bank depicted on the historic mapping just to the west of Widworthy Court. It is possible that some of these banks were wood banks, but it is perhaps more likely given their scale and orientation that they were designed landscape features of post-medieval or 19th century origin.
