Narrow ridges were visible as low parallel earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. The visible earthwork banks were spaced up to circa 7 metres apart and crossed the contours of the slope over an area of circa 0.2 hectares.
The visible earthworks fall within a plot depicted as a plantation on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The plot, numbered as plot 43 on the Tithe Map for Talaton, was listed as Forches Orchard on the Tithe Apportionments.
The earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage in orchards dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century. The orchard was probably converted to a plantation between circa 1840 and 1880 and remains under dense tree cover.
