A small semi-circular pit circa 22 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1967 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any extractive pit feature explicitly depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. However, it does correspond with a pond depicted on both the OS First Edition 25 inch map and Tithe map for Payhembury. It is probable that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently utilised as a pond.
The pond remains depicted and annotated on the current OS MasterMap base layer. It was previously recorded as part of MDV113536.
