An earthwork pit is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1948, just to the south of the farmstead at Sutton Barton. It was used as orchard at the tithe of the Tithe apportionment, suggesting that a post-medieval extractive pit had become reused as orchard by the mid-19th century. By the 21st century the area had been landscaped and large farm buildings had been constructed on the site.
