Numerous earthwork pits are visible across Castle Hill on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. At circa 3 metres diameter many are of a size that would be typical of tree throws, and mature trees are depicted scattered across this area on the historic mapping. However a few are much larger and of irregular form and these are much more typical of former extractive pits. In addition to those transcribed for this project, other less well-defined possible earthworks are visible and these may be additional pits.
