Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of parallel ridges circa 6 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks over an area of circa 0.1 ha on digital images derived from lidar data acquired between 1998 and 2014.
The visible banks fell within Plot 598 on the Tithe map and apportionments for Plymtree, a larger plot listed as an orchard. It was depicted as planted with trees on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map of circa 1880-90 but not explicitly symbolised as an orchard. It was shown as an orchard on the OS Second Edition map of circa 1904-6 and remained densely planted in 1946.
The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century to the early 20th century. It is possible the orchard was unmanaged for a short period to the end of the 19th century.
The plot has now been subdivided and the smaller eastern plot, partly corresponding with the visible earthworks, remains lightly planted on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 but has been largely turned over to pasture.
