It broadly corresponds to the location of an irregular plot of land that is named ‘Pit Orchard’ on the Tithe apportionment and depicted with orchard trees on the late-19th century OS map. It is interpreted as a post-medieval extractive pit that became disused by the mid-19th century and reused as an orchard. The area has since been landscaped.
